This weekend is probably best suited to people who come along by themselves or for people who are comfortable with a quieter weekend - a big part of this long weekend is to have dedicated reading time!
The program for the weekend is as follows (some minor changes may be made closer to the weekend itself):
Friday:
12.30 PM Meet at Glenbrook in the Lower Blue Mountains where we will enjoy lunch in this cute little village and visit the wonderful Blue Dragon Bookshop (2nd hand books). You will also have time to look around the lovely shops here.
3 PM We'll drive together in our van to the mid Mountains town of Springwood, and visit the Turning Page bookshop, one of the best book shops in the Mountains! (new books)
4.30 PM We'll drive to our hotel in Katoomba, about a half hour drive. Here you will check in to your room, raid your goody bag and settle in with one of your new books.
Dinner is at your leisure (and your own expense). You can dine within the hotel or walk 5 minutes to the township of Katoomba, or 15 minutes to the township of Leura (or call a taxi). If you would prefer to bring your own vehicle to Katoomba, we can simply tell you where and when to meet us at each bookshop along the way.
Saturday:
9.30 AM We'll meet you at the front steps of your hotel and transport you to a short but stunning loop walk, where you will get to experience the top section of the beautiful Furber steps in Katoomba. This walk involves walking down (and back up!) quite a few steps but the path is generally well made and we will walk at a slow and steady pace. There will be no rushing!
10.45 AM We'll head to Wentworth Falls to check out two lovely book shops there before driving the short distance to Leura for a lunch of good old fashioned sandwiches and Devonshire Tea (scones with jam and cream and tea or coffee). After lunch at 'Bygone Beauties', we will visit Megalong Books, one of the longest established bookshops in the Mountains. You will also have time to look around the charming village of Leura.
2.00 PM We'll drive you back to the hotel for an important long meeting with your book!
Dinner is at your leisure.
Sunday:
9.30 AM Once again we'll meet you at the front steps of your hotel and transport you only a few minutes to another lovely loop walk in Katoomba. This walk takes us over the top of the Bridal Veil Falls and along the serene Leura Cascades. This walk will take about an hour and like yesterday, does involve some steps and one or two sections of uneven ground (with railings to hold onto).
10.45 AM Following our walk we'll jump back in our van and drive to another lovely Blue Mountains village, this time Blackheath, about 15 minutes away. Here you can visit Gleebooks, and have a look around this lovely town. We'll have lunch in a local cafe. Before we leave Blackheath we'll take you to Govetts Leap Lookout - one of the best lookouts in the whole of the Blue Mountains.
2.00 PM We'll head back to Katoomba and allow you to settle in for a long afternoon in front of your fire with your books.
Dinner is at your leisure.
Monday
10.00 Check out of your hotel room and meet us at the front steps. This morning we visit the astonishing Mr Pickwicks Fine Old Books and The Little Lost Bookshop in Katoomba, to see if there are any hidden gems waiting for you there. We'll have time for a mid morning tea/coffee and cake before heading back down the Mountains to your car or train pick up in Glenbrook (we should arrive back in Glenbrook by around 1.00 PM. From Glenbrook, it is one hour by road or train to Sydney.
